The Kano River Irrigation Project is one of the largest and most successful irrigation schemes in Nigeria. It is located in Bunkure, Kura and Garum Malam Local Government of Kano State with project office at Kura.
It’s source of water is the Tiga Dam, which provides a perfect setting for gravity irrigation. Its total irrigable area is 22,000 hectares. The goal is to map all individual farm fields in the irrigation area, bringing them into the formal economy.
Earlier this year, we conducted a pilot in the area of interest where we captured 3,000 Farm Fields over a period of 2 Weeks.For each farm field captured, over 20 attributes were recorded. Several hundred workers will be trained to conduct the mapping exercise, The end result will be a statistically representative database with precise geographic information about rural farms that can be used to track trends and adjust government outreach efforts accordingly.

One of those ways is by using public displays in which captured data is shown to the public for a certain period to validate their details and that of their neighbors.
